Iran is always more and different than the image of it conveyed by the media; the short film offers the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of themes and perspectives, locations and artistic styles. Ghasideh Golmakani has already selected several short films by female filmmakers for “Visions of Iran”. This time she will be putting together a current “gender-mixed” selection. Program details can be found here shortly.

Followed by a discussion with Ghasideh Golmakani, Iman Behrouzi and other invited filmmakers.

Curator

Ghasideh Golmakani studied art history and cultural studies at the Sorbonne. In her films, she mainly deals with taboos in traditional Iran, such as child abuse, harassment in public spaces and everyday violence against women.

A meditative symphony about the city and death. The filmmaker returns to the places where he shot a film about suicide 18 years earlier. Now he searches the crowded streets and run-down corners of the city for the reasons that led three sisters to end their lives together.

With animated surrealistic images, “Meteor” deals with the narrator’s deep grief over the loss of her best friend in the Islamic Republic of Iran. It juxtaposes the protest movement “Women, Life, Freedom” with the challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community in Iran.

The Honest Shepherd (Tchopane Rastgoo)
