Mehran Tamadon, who lives in exile in France, has been dealing with the power structures of the Iranian regime for many years: for “Where God Is Not” he recreated their former prison cells in Paris according to the instructions of former political prisoners; in this safe yet gloomy environment they recall the inhumane prison conditions in Evin and Ghezel Hesar – supported and accompanied by the empathetic filmmaker and absorbed by their enormous emotional strength. “Where God Is Not” screened together with Mehran Tamadon’s second documentary “My Worst Enemy” at the 73rd Berlinale in 2023 and received the Ecumenical Jury Prize.

Mehran Tamadon (*1972 in Tehran) has lived in France since the age of twelve. After his studies, he worked as an architect in Iran for four years. His first documentary film “Beheshte Zahra” (2004) was followed by “Bassidji” (2009) and “Iranians” (2014), which led to the withdrawal of his passport.
