IR 2021, 95 min.
Director: Panah Panahi

Farsi with English subtitles.

A resolute mother, a hyperactive six-year-old, a phlegmatic father with a cast on his leg and a dog drive in a rented car from Tehran towards the Kurdish mountains to see off the family’s eldest son as he flees across the border. Panahi succeeds with his episodic debut film a beautiful road movie – a tragicomic story about the cohesion of a family and exile, filmed against the backdrop of the magical mountain landscape of Northern Iran. The director broke numerous censorship rules while filming – especially in the portrayal of the mother. “Hit the Road” won awards at several festivals after its Cannes premiere, but has not yet been shown in Iran.

* A purchase is worthwhile from the fourth film onwards.
