The Art of Living in Danger

Saturday, 10.6.2023, 3.30 p.m.

Documentary
D/IR 2020, 87 min.
Director: Mina Keshavarz
Farsi with English subtitles.

Mina gradually reveals the tragic story of her grandmother and unravels the mystery of her mysterious death, which the family still refuses to talk about.

The reappraisal of her family history is at the same time a review of the struggle of Iranian women’s rights activists, who have been fighting for the right to equal treatment and legal protection for generations – and an appeal for a better future.

Women in Iran have been fighting for equal rights for more than 40 years: the family law introduced in 1974 was suspended after the Iranian revolution of 1978. The filmmaker accompanies a group of women fighting for change.

* A purchase is worthwhile from the fourth film onwards.
