D: Saeed Nouri
The lives of Iranian women before the Islamic Revolution were determined by two contradictory factors: the traditional patriarchy and the Shah’s modernization policy. Saeed Nouri’s collage of film clips portrays the domestic and social situation of Iranian women from 1932 (the year of the first sound film) to the 1979 revolution – predominantly from the perspective of male filmmakers. The themes are family honor, love and betrayal, unwanted pregnancies and abortions, arranged marriages and polygamy.
