Starless Dreams رؤیاهای دم صبح

Mehrdad Oskouei is one of the most prominent documentary filmmakers in Iran. In his trilogy he dedicates to young offenders; thus he tries, starting sensitively from individual fate, to draw the portrait of a complicit society, violence, drug use and abuse tolerated in the family. Minors are here marginalized and criminalized.

Oskouei’s most recent film portrays underage girls detained for offenses such as pick-pocketing, drug trafficking or manslaughter. Boredom and monotony determine their daily life in jail. Against the desire for release and return in their previous lives stands the fear of renewed conflicts in their families.

The filmmaker had to wait seven years for filming permits.
