Life is too Short

Saturday, 13 June, 9.30 pm

A selection of recent Iranian short films

The short film is often more immediate, experimental and less constrained than the feature film. In Iran, this format offers filmmakers the opportunity to process social tensions, personal experiences and political moods quickly and directly through art. Curator Ghasideh Golmakani presents a selection of recent short films again this year – a cinematic retrospective of a year marked by crises, uncertainty and war.

The programme includes, amongst others:

Nothing Has Ever Happened Here
Director: Ayat Najafi

This mockumentary tells of the catastrophic consequences of a war that never took place. Blurring the lines between documentary and fiction, the film explores the psychological and social repercussions of a constant threat of war. The setting is Tehran in October 2012: an Iranian filmmaker from New York returns to the fictitiously destroyed city to document the lives of the survivors and everyday life in the aftermath of the catastrophe.

Followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.
