Leila’s four adult brothers, unemployed and in debt, still live in their parents’ house. Forty-year-old Leila struggles to secure her siblings’ future by buying a store. To do so, she needs start-up capital, and the father also needs money to realize his dreams of social advancement in the extended family.

Roustaee’s gripping, twisty drama shows an Iran that is heading from one crisis to the next due to the sanctions imposed by the West, but also due to omnipresent corruption. With a star-studded cast, especially Taraneh Alidoosti, he succeeds in creating a highly suspenseful, masterfully staged family epic and at the same time a reckoning with the patriarchy.
