Over the course of twenty years, three loosely connected episodes tell of the fate of Afghan immigrants in Iran. In 2001, Mohamed has to do menial labor and falls in love with Leila. Ten years later, their marriage is overshadowed by tragedy. And in 2021, Leila’s brother Qasem learns of the fate of his son, whom he thought was in Turkey. The directing duo show the effects of the invisible institutional barriers experienced by Afghan migrants in Iran. This promising debut received the Directing Award at Sundance!

Raha Amirfazli is studying film production at the Tisch School of the Arts. She previously took part in an exchange program at the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film Academy in Berlin. After several short films, “In the Land of Brothers” is her feature film debut.

Alireza Ghasemi (*1990 in Tehran) studied film directing in Tehran and at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and took part in the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2022. His short film “Lunch Time” (2017) screened in Cannes in 2017. “In the Land of Brothers” (2024) is his first feature film.
