Ellen Vuosalo’s life story takes her via Finland and the USA to Iran. After freeing herself from the dependency of her abusive husband, she moves to Tehran to get her children back – and to build an independent life for herself in the midst of a man’s world. As one of the leading ornithologists, the 93-year-old now enjoys respect and affection. A touching documentary about man and nature, East and West. Iiris Härmä (*1970 in Finland) studied ethnology, cultural studies and film studies. The subjects of her documentaries range from Japanese humanoid robots to indigenous peoples in Kenya. She is an active member of PINGIS, the community of Finnish female documentary filmmakers.
